WHAT
What are people doing about the gap? Are any big companies taking action?
WHEN
Was there ever a time when there was gender equality in startups? (or anything?)
WHERE
Where are all the women? (The population is about 51% women.. they must be somewhere...)
I think these three questions are the most interesting because they provide some more information for people that want to do something about the gender gap. For instance, if women continue to get degrees in STEM but then don't work in STEM professions, looking at where they do work could give us an idea of why they're switching and what forces may be at play. The question about if there was ever gender equality is interesting to me because if there was, maybe that was historically a bad time for startups and women were made to be the scapegoats. Finally, asking what is being done to close the gap is important because if we're going to work against the gender gap we should know if there are major players we can team up with or if we'll have to start from ground zero. If I can find a way to weave these three questions into one argument in a public speech act, I think it'll make a pretty strong case for how to go about closing the gap and it will give advocates for equality a solid game plan.
